Because I've reached the ripe age of 35, my doctor sent me for genetic testing a couple of months ago. We had to meet with a genetic counselor and go over all of our medical history. During this process, some blood work was done, which revealed that there was a a 1 in 14 percent chance that this baby had a genetic disorder and would not survive. It was suggested that we have an amniocentesis at our next appointment. Taurus and I didn't believe that our baby had this disorder but agreed to do the amnio. Over the next month, we just prayed and believed God that the baby was healthy. We went in for the amnio, signed all of the paperwork and were notified of all of the risks involved. Before the amnio got underway, the doctor decided to do a sonogram first to check out all of the major organs. The type of genetic disorder in question involves some major abnormalities with the baby's organs but everyone of them was the right size and shape and in the correct position with NO defects. The doctor told us that we could go ahead with the amnio but she's never seen a case where a baby with this disorder had normal looking organs so we decided against the amnio. There was really no need to do it at this point. Also during that visit, the doctor looked to see if she could determine the baby's gender. The picture was not very clear but she couldn't see any boy parts at that visit. We went back today to check the organ measurements and see if we could see a clearer image of the baby's gender. There was no question about today. We are definitely having a healthy baby GIRL!!
